The buzzword of the year has been covered with practical case studies (just as we like it) in this excellent post from SimplyZesty. There is coverage on how Buffalo Wild Wings work with SCVNGR to get their customers to complete challenges - and therefore get more engaged with the brand. Crisis Number One - silence the protesters - did Versace just make things worse?
Another for the crisis communications album. Certain Versace jeans are given their edgy worn look after being sandblasted. Sandblasting is a dangerous technique for the people doing it, and has actually been known to kill workers in the past. The human rights group 'Clean Clothes Campaign' decided to protest Versace's use of the technique by hijacking their Facebook page. Versace promptly revoked rights to publish anything on their wall. Crisis Number Two - don't listen to the critics - Hershey and censorship
Admittedly, this is an entirely one-sided article, but it again covers a company who decide to become decidedly unsociable when faced with criticism. This time chocolate maker Hershey have censored a photo competition they were running on Facebook when campaign group Change.org decided to draw attention to alleged failure to comply with human rights standards - by entering photos highlighting the problem. Can a company be truly social if it only hears what it wants to?

Brian Solis certainly thinks so. In this piece, our favourite dapper guru investigates the data Foursquare released to celebrate reaching 10m users. A couple of choice quotes: "Services such as Foursquare bring the Yellow Pages alive". "What businesses can learn is nothing short of a formula for future relevant, improved sales, and the creation of more meaningful experiences that yield loyal relationships with networked consumers." Gosh.
