Today, Chris Brogan contemplates quitting LinkedIn and Seth Godin says he doesn't use Twitter (in a broader post about managing the points of contact you have in your life).
Sample quote - "I’m not writing this for us to think about me. I’m writing this for us to think about us. I’m writing this for business people who are wondering where to put their time, who wonder why everyone’s spreading themselves all over these platforms, and who are wondering what comes next when we’re all this plugged in.".
Perhaps what comes next is something like Trackle - profiled here on ReadWriteWeb. It's an alert service that notifies you about 'almost everything'. From social networks to severe weather. ReadWriteWeb think about a commercial application for this stuff:
"Imagine for example getting notified, when you walk into a bookstore, that a book you have on your wishlist is available on special in that store."
I would imagine retailers looking to get involved in this pretty sharpish...
There's an interesting study profiled by eConsultancy - focusing on the fact that consumers don't hate social media ads that much. Well 22% like them. Positive? Other relevant stats - 59% of all internet users participate in some form of social media, and 58% of those quizzed remembered the ads on Facebook - the best recall rate.
A potential gamechanger - Google has made social search available to the masses. Will make it easier for you to convince your boss that it does matter, now you can link it to SEO, surely? See more here.
Oh - and something called an iPad turns up. It's not particularly relevant, but you try reading about anything to do with tech today and see if you can avoid it.
